Pizzicato

Pizzicato may not have the best vegan pizza in town or even vegan pizza by the slice, but they do have great salad. Is this really a review of a salad place on a vegan website? Yes, because their salad is good, cheap and filling, and sometimes a vegan really does just want a salad!

So the medium Verde Salad is my plate of choice. Over the past few years I’ve seen the price climb from $4.25 to $5.25, and it’s still worth it for the pile of salad you get. Romaine lettuce tossed with a balsamic vinaigrette, served with 4 large pieces of roma tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion slices and shredded carrots. Add pine nuts, walnuts or pears for 50 cents more. Or order a small piece of toasted bread (refined sugar is the only questionable ingredient I am told) for 25 cents each, with a side of marinara. It’s a great, healthy meal in a hurry.
The only downside to the salad is how large and unevenly chopped the lettuce sizes are. Make sure to grab a knife along with a fork to chop it up yourself. Good thing they supply sturdy plastic forks here. Check out their menus for their gourmet pizza offerings because they are veganizable.

  1. hee, pizzicato. looks like the meal i eat almost every day. here’s my run-down, considering my experience with the one i work at:
    – we use all red-leaf lettuce in the verde salad. you could sub other lettuce if you wanted–baby greens, spinach, cabbage..
    – judging by your photo, that person skimped on the carrots (&onions)!
    – we had the vegan pizza (pomodoro) by the slice last time i worked. and usually every sunday, since the cook makes it for me. when he makes it up, it’s good, but the pomodoro isn’t great. i guess if someone wanted to buy a whole pizza, i’d recommend picking another kind and ordering without any cheese.
    – there’s also a hummus plate (get it without feta, or just order a side of hummus?) but it takes longer.

    phew.
