Proper Eats should be in Eugene – but I’m glad it isn’t because sometimes I just want a good healthy, vegan meal. Proper Eats is a small community market and restaurant in St. John’s. One of the best things about it, besides being local, organic, serving home brews and being a comfortable space is the fact that it’s open late. Why does Portland go to bed so early? You can see a list of upcoming events on their website or just visit because there always seems to be something going on, but not in an annoying way that makes it difficult to enjoy your food or conversation.

I get the feeling Proper Eats really cares about the food they create and people they serve. The serving sizes aren’t too large, just enough for a mid-sized person like me. Sometimes I want a little more to eat, but the food leaves me with a pleasantly full feeling. It makes a great excuse for dessert or crackers. Soups, salads, sandwiches and grains, beans and veggie dishes fill the menu. There are plenty of raw options too. They always have daily specials and soups to choose beyond their regular menu.

Proper Eats is a great place to sell your abundant garden production or to enjoy a meal that’s good for your taste buds and your body. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their changing options.
