Q: What can sell out a little coffee cart on N. Lombard?
A: Food Fight posting “VEGAN WAFFLES” on their website.
We went on a Saturday and they were almost out of vegan waffle mix. I let them know to increase their stock because I was moving a few blocks away and I loooove waffles. The wait was longer than expected, about 10-15 minutes, but worth every moment. Two veggie sausages were tucked into a beautifully browned waffle blanket. The secret to this yummy brunch was the maple/margarine spread. All wrapped in foil so it doesn’t leak onto you. I salivate just thinking about this wonderful creation and it was only $4.50. There were many other waffle options, some vegan, some not – just check out their website.
Since I am not a coffee person I cannot speak to the coffee, but my brunch companion was quite impressed with the amount of creme in her Americano. She said it shows a great barista. I just thought it looked pretty so I took a photo. No extra charge for soy milk in their fancy drinks.
If you don’t live in the area, you should still take a trip there at least once a month, if you’re a waffle lover. Since it’s outside and they have a picnic table, you can take “jr.” (as they called the flour legged furry friend with us) but they don’t have vegan non-human cookies. This will be my new regular hang out.

Do you happen to know what kind of vegan sausage they use? I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere. I’m just curious.

No, but I will find out for you and update this entry when I know.

Thank you for alerting me to this place. I missed the memo on Food Fight’s blog. I keep staring at the marshmallowy photo and drooling. It should be marked NSFW.

Any experiences with the Flavourspot on Fremont and Mississippi?
I might not be reading the menu thoroughly enough, but it doesn’t seem to have all of these options. I’ve been about three weekends in a row now, and am quickly become dissatisfied.
I think the trick, for me at least, is to think of it as more of a snack than a meal. The vegan sausage (has anyone found out which brand they use?) is tasty, although at $5.oo, ($4.50 usually, 50 cents to veganize it, bleh), is not very substantial. Even two waffles is not quite a full meal, as far as I am concerned.
I am also finding the waffles to be too dry, and not fluffy enough. Furthermore, they don’t have Earth Balance (or any other buttery thing), and offered only canola spray as a butter substitute on the butter and powdered sugar. It was still tasty, but would have benefited greatly from a more buttery flavor/texture.
Aside from these glaring shortcomings, Flavourspot has a tasty product that won’t totally break the bank. It just can’t, at this point, replace a more standard breakfast. But for those few hours between breakfast and lunch it might be just the thing that hits the “spot”.
